Division of Geographic Medicine & Infectious Disease (GMID) is the clinical and research infectious disease division for Tufts Medical Center. The Division has space and resources in three buildings, encompassing 17,200 square feet. For Trainees and Researchers: Everything you need to succeed Our state of the art research in bacterial, HIV, other viral and parasitic disease spans basic science, clinical research, outcomes, and translational research both in the US and multiple international sites. The Divisions high standards for medical training are combined with a rich environment of teaching at all levels, including our ACGME-acredited Infectious Disease Fellowship. Our research budget of over $4 million includes $1 million for structured, mentored research training to help our fellows become independently funded academic researchers. To this end we also provide funded higher education for MPH, MS or PhD degrees at the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences in Boston, MA. Clinical AIDS Research HIV Pathogenesis Clinical Infectious Diseases Research Microbial Pathogenesis and Host Response Introduction and overview Training in clinical, basic or translational Infectious Diseases research is a major focus of the Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Our faculty provide mentoring, structured training, and preparation for successful grant applications to federal and private funding agencies to enable trainees to launch independent academic research careers. We have approximately 25 post-doctoral trainees each year who are supported by National Institutes of Health training programs as well as by federal and private agency funding to individual faculty. The program is structured to train fellows with an MD degree, who have completed at least one year of clinical training in Infectious Diseases, as well as fellows with a PhD or DVM degree who wish to pursue postdoctoral studies. During the first year of Infectious Diseases fellowship, fellows gain exposure to all the research in the Division through meetings and poster sessions, in order to facilitate the fellow's choice of mentor, mentorship commitee, and project that is a best fit for the fellow's career goals and aspirations.
