We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Associate Scientist/Scientist to support H3’s effort to discover unique anti-cancer compounds for the treatment of targeted patient populations.  In this position within the Target Compound Profiling Group, the candidate will play an important role in developing and implementing assays suitable for the identification, characterization and optimization of compounds for oncology drug discovery.  This individual should have proven bench level expertise in establishing and performing a wide range of biochemical and biophysical assays to screen and characterize small molecule compounds and elucidate the mechanism of compound action.  Excellent communication and organization skills are also required.  In the innovative and fast-paced environment at H3, this position offers the opportunity to acquire new skills and gain broad exposure to cancer drug discovery by working closely with the automation, chemistry, and cell biology teams to enable efficient process of hit discovery and hit-to-lead optimization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Developing and implementing a variety of biochemical and biophysical assays to screen and characterize small molecule compounds and determine the mode of compound action

·         Evaluation of compounds and development of structure-activity relationships in collaboration with medicinal chemists as a part of the overall hit-to-lead process

·         Utilization of various assay formats such as enzymatic assays, protein-compound binding assays, kinetic assays, and cell-based assays in low- to high-throughput

·         Expression and purification of target proteins and performance of  general protein biochemistry and molecular biology 

·         Analysis and interpretation of integrated datasets

·         Maintenance of laboratory records, protocols, summaries, and technical reports

·         Contribution to laboratory organization and maintenance

 Qualifications:

  • BS/MS with 5+ years or PhD with 0-2 years of industrial/academic laboratory experience or equivalent in biochemistry, biology or a life science
  • Strong background in biochemistry and/or biophysics is required.  Experience in drug discovery, especially oncology desirable
  • Prior laboratory experience with various biochemical and biophysical assay technologies such as SPR, calorimetry, fluorescence-based techniques, LC-MS, enzyme-based kinetics as well as general biochemistry techniques
  • Experience with protein expression and characterization, molecular biology, tissue culture, high-throughput assays desirable
  • Highly analytical mind, attention to detail, and organization skills are critical
  • Collaborative and proactive attitude with excellent written and oral communication skills
