1st Choice has several openings for Mid through Senior Level Chemists for a federal government agency located in Hyattsville, MD
The Chemist: Develop analytical methods and protocols on tobacco products using the following procedures: Develop an extraction method using Accelerated Solvent Extractor (ASE) system for extraction of nicotine alkaloids, tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNA), and solanesol in tobacco products. Develop a qualitative and quantitative method for nicotine alkaloids, TSNA, and solanesol using mass spectrometric techniques such as LC-MS/MS, Time-Of-Flight (TOF), and Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART) TOF mass spectrometers. Validate the ASE extraction and the quantitative determination methods for nicotine alkaloids, TSNA, and solanesol. Submit a validation package to SSD Quality Manager and write a manuscript for publication in a peer reviewed scientific journal Serve as a principal chemist for operating and maintaining the 20-port linear mainstream smoking machine. Operate a 20-port linear mainstream smoking machine to collect smoke constituents of cigarette products on a filter pad. Extract and Isolate ammonia from the filter pads. Develop and validate an Ion Chromatography (IC) method for quantitative determination of Ammonia in mainstream tobacco smoke. Submit a complete validation package on ammonia analysis by IC to SSD Quality Manager
