FAPESP-funded postdoctoral fellowship position to work in the project "Mechanisms of action of long non-coding RNAs involved in gene activation programs in eukaryotes" under the supervision of Dr. Sergio Verjovski-Almeida. Apply until January 15, 2020.
The work will be conducted at the Butantan Institute's Laboratory of Gene Expression in Eukaryotes, beginning March 2, 2020.
The objective is to investigate the molecular mechanisms of action of long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) PVT1 associated with androgen receptor (AR). The role of lincRNA PVT1 in regulating gene expression activation and gene expression inhibition programs in prostate cancer cell lines will be studied.
Advanced molecular biology tools will be used, such as silencing lincRNA PVT1 with gapmers, followed by ChIP-Seq. The goal is to map the genomic sites of the genes that are targeted by AR and PVT1. Other tools will be used, such as ChIRP-MS, to capture and isolate chromatin that specifically binds to PVT1, followed by mass spectrometric analysis of the captured proteins to reveal other partners of the PVT1-AR complex. We will also use fluorescence microscopy with an in vitro synthesized PVT1 containing in its sequence an aptamer RNA with high-affinity fluorophore binding that will permit to locate PVT1 in prostate cancer cells.
The candidate must be fluent in English, must have received the doctorate degree in the area of Biological Sciences, with emphasis in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, less than five years ago, must have publications in the area, and possess good writing and communication skills. The candidate must have experience in cell culture, RT-qPCR, western blotting and immunohistochemistry. Bioinformatics skills are desired.
Once selected, the postdoc, if he/she wishes, may register with the Post-Doctoral Program of the University of São Paulo (in the Biochemistry Department, Institute of Chemistry), where Dr. Verjovski-Almeida is a Senior Professor, and will receive a Certificate from the Program at the end of the Postdoctoral training.
Interested candidates should send a one-page letter of motivation and a curriculum vitae, and should have three letters of recommendation sent by the supporting investigators directly to Dr. Verjovski-Almeida's email (sergio.verjovskibutantan.gov.br). Selected candidates will be contacted via e-mail to schedule interviews between January 15 and January 30, 2020.
The postdoctoral opportunity is open to Brazilians and foreigners. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship in the amount of R $ 7,373.10 per month tax-free (approximately US $ 1750 per month tax-free) plus the equivalent to 15% of the annual scholarship amount to meet unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activity. This is a 3-year fellowship.
If the Postdoctoral holder lives outside the city of São Paulo and needs to relocate, he or she may be entitled to an installation allowance. More information about the FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship is available at http://www.fapesp.br/en/postdoc
