The NCREPT Research Assistant will work at the UA�s NCREPT 13.8kV, 6MVA test facility. The modernization of the nation�s power grids is resulting in the development of several grid-connected power electronic systems whose feasibility must be proven before connected to the grid. This position will focus on prototyping and testing grid-connected and transportation-related power electronic systems. This position will report to the directors of NCREPT.
Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications: Formal equivalent of a bachelor's degree in mathematics, chemistry, biology, or related field.
B.S.E.E. and at least five years of experience or equivalent
Demonstrated record of some funded research
Samples of power electronic prototypes built
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink� and LabVIEW
Knowledge of microcontrollers and digital signal processors
Proficient skills with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, PSpice or SABER
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to develop, write, and critique technical papers and research proposals
Ability and willingness to use common tools required to do routine maintenance and inspection tasks
Ability to represent our center to the public and interface effectively with industrial clients during tours and visits
Ability to manage personnel safety aspects of working in a medium-voltage test facility
Ability to manage multiple priorities
Must be able to pass multiple background checks and must either be U.S. Citizens, per various funding agency guidelines or go through a technology licensing process with the Export Control team
