Post-doctoral Fellowship in Biological Chemistry

A postdoctoral position is available at the Departamento de Bioquímica, Instituto de Química, Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brasil.

We study the chemical and biochemical aspects of oxidatively-generated and photo-induced damage to biomolecules. The studies focus on providing the mechanisms by which singlet molecular oxygen (1O2) and other “reactive oxygen species” play their physiological and pathological roles. What mechanism connects 1O2with components of signalling pathways? A direct oxidation of a signalling component by 1O2should be considered.

Strong efforts are the development of pure 1O2 generators, synthesis of hydroperoxides derivatives, including isotopically labeled compounds. 

The position requires a PhD with a strong background in 1O2 chemiluminescence techniques, organic synthesis, cell culture models, high performance liquid separation and mass spectrometrytechniques, and other biochemical approaches such as basic cell culture models.

The successful candidate is expected to design and perform experiments and interpret data independently.
