PhD-Student position in the field of preclinical head and neck cancer research at the University of Bern (Switzerland)

Posted by: University of Bern

Posted date: Apr-04-2019

Location: Bern, Switzerland

Head and neck cancer (HNC) is a leading cancer cause worldwide. Management of HNC often requires radiation therapy, often combined with other therapeutic approaches.

We propose a project that explores radioresistance mechanisms in preclinical models of HNC, both in vitro and in vivo. An important part of the project requires development and practical implementation of an orthotopic murine model.

The student will be exposed to a wide range of experimental procedures using cell lines as well as state-of-the-art in vivo imaging and irradiation.

Applicants to the PhD position should ideally have a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine or closely related fields. Previous experience in preclinical oncology with cancer models is an advantage. The applicant should hold a permission to work with research animals or be willing to obtain one early within the context of the PhD. The applicant should be a motivated, independent individual, enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary academic environment.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences (GCB) of the University of Bern.
