<p style="margin: 0px 0px 13px;"><span lang="EN-US" style="margin: 0px;"><font size="3" face="Calibri">Head and neck cancer (HNC) is a leading cancer cause worldwide. Management of HNC often requires radiation therapy, often combined with other therapeutic approaches.</font></span></p>
<p style="margin: 0px 0px 13px;"><span lang="EN-US" style="margin: 0px;"><font size="3" face="Calibri">We propose a project that explores radioresistance mechanisms in preclinical models of HNC, both <i>in vitro</i> and <i>in vivo</i>. An important part of the project requires development and practical implementation of an orthotopic murine model.</font></span></p>
<p style="margin: 0px 0px 13px;"><span lang="EN-US" style="margin: 0px;"><font size="3" face="Calibri">The student will be exposed to a wide range of experimental procedures using cell lines as well as state-of-the-art <i>in vivo</i> imaging and irradiation. </font></span></p>
<p style="margin: 0px 0px 13px;"><span lang="EN-US" style="margin: 0px;"><font size="3" face="Calibri">Applicants to the PhD position should ideally have a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine or closely related fields. Previous experience in preclinical oncology with cancer models is an advantage. The applicant should hold a permission to work with research animals or be willing to obtain one early within the context of the PhD. The applicant should be a motivated, independent individual, enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary academic environment. </font></span></p>
<p style="margin: 0px 0px 13px;"><span lang="EN-US" style="margin: 0px;"><font size="3" face="Calibri">The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences (GCB) of the University of Bern.</font></span></p>
