The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is the world’s premier research organization dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff. Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
The World Bank supported APART project aims to increase productivity and profitability of small and marginal farmers in rice-based cropping systems and facilitate agri-business investments, market access, and enable smallholder farmers and agro-entrepreneurs to produce crops resilient to recurrent floods or droughts in 16 districts of Assam.
Under the general supervision of Senior Associate Scientist II & Resident Programme Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting with monitoring field activities and integrated pest and disease management in crops under different project objectives. Organize a collection of data, coordinate transfer of knowledge through different means, including training, demonstrations, and exposure visits. Work closely with AAU project field staff, KVKs, ATMA, district administration, and other stakeholders including CG centers for achieving agreed project milestones. Monitor the performance of all programs, prepare and submit reports.
This position will be based at the IRRI Hub Office at Guwahati, Assam in India and will only be filled by permanent citizens of India.

Roles and Responsibilities
Support in organizing field demonstrations, traveling seminars, interaction and feedback sessions, field days in collaboration with different stakeholders
Assist in developing and implementing appropriate methods for all pest and disease management
Organize data collection by using appropriate and recommended tools
Document progress and impact of demonstrated technologies in the field and help in report and technical materials preparation
Promote participatory approaches in IPM for farmers to learn, test, select and implement “best-bet” IPM options to reduce losses due to pests, diseases, and weeds.
Engagement with various stakeholders includes AAU led field staff, KVKs, NGOs, Public, private sectors, suppliers, service providers, seed producers,
Coordinate with district agricultural officers, KVK scientists on a day to day activities and mutual activities
Other subject project leads, subject matter experts for field experiments and data collection
Coordinate with AAU project field staff, collaborators, enumerators/ contract workers to manage field activities
and guide as necessary to ensure quality standards
Identify the cause and severity of all fungal and bacterial infestations on field crops.
Monitor &analyze nature, the cause of plant diseases and determine symptoms of the diseased condition and recommend control measure
Support in conducting study to determine the losses due to pest/disease infestation and develop practices to prevent or reduce losses
Troubleshooting and assisting service providers and progressive farmers through hands-on training on IP&DM
Provide assistance to the project team and partners to resolve all issues related to plant protection for all sites.
Assist implementing partners for effective implementation of project activities
Prepare presentations and reports
Convert encoded data into the database
Contribute to the development of training materials and news letters
Master’s degree in Agricultural Science with specialization in plant pathology or Entomology with a minimum of 2 year of relevant work experience in plant protection, IPM, and crop management in a project related to agriculture extension and research Or PhD in Plant Pathology or Entomology
Has Basic knowledge of MS Office and related software
Has a working knowledge of sophisticated equipment and processes for its efficient use
Has some knowledge of the latest techniques on rice farming
Is able to be active with associates in field condition, to work independently and with little guidance
Has some experience with monitoring and documentation of fields activities
Has some experience with providing training on farming techniques
House-Rent Allowance:IRRI provides a house rent allowance of 40% of base pay per month.
Transport Allowance:A monthly transport allowance of INR 4000/- is provided to NRS L4
Dearness Allowance:One Hundred and Thirteen percent (113%) of employee’s base pay.
Leave Travel Allowance (LTA):One-month base pay per annum, on availing minimum 2 days of vacation leave
Education Allowance:INR 1000/- per child per month (limited 2 children)
