The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is the world’s premier research organization dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.
Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
India has the world’s largest area under rice cultivation and is one of the largest producers of rice, accounting for 20% of global rice production. IRRI and India have been successfully collaborating for more than five decades. Formal collaboration between India and IRRI dates back to 1967 and was formalized under the ICAR-IRRI Memorandum of Agreement for cooperation in research and training. The Government of India recently approved the establishment of an IRRI South Asia Regional Center (ISARC) at Varanasi in the State of Uttar Pradesh. It represents an exciting new opportunity to develop an even stronger partnership with India and other SAARC Member States. ISARC will include a Center of Excellence on Rice Value Addition (CERVA) at the National Seed Research and Training Center (NSRTC), Varanasi. A node of the IRRI Education will be established to provide training to strengthen the capacity of rice-growing countries in both South Asia and Africa, enhancing south-south collaboration. It will also have the capacity to conduct courses in other areas of relevance to the rice sector.
The position will serve as overall IT Support for the IRRI South Asia Regional Center, ensuring smooth, problem free and well documented systems to support implementation of the IRRI South Asia Regional Center . The position should also be able to work with program staff to provide guidance & support to program related training involving IT techniques.
This position will be based at IRRI South Asia Regional Center (ISARC) at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide technical support to all IRRI staff in location and provide technology support and solutions to meet the needs of the Project
Ensuring compliance to IRRI’s IT policies & practice and helping to develop and implement new IT standards and policies, if and where required
Implement and maintain the LAN & WiFi Network infrastructure, software applications and hardware that support Project operations
Provide correct response and guidance to requests on system modifications, developing work-around or site-specific enhancements, data manipulation, system reconfiguration, operating procedures update and user training
Investigate problems and other requests for support and in consultation with the supervisor, determine appropriate actions to be taken to resolve problems (e.g. poor performance) and faults (e.g. system failure) occurring in the operation of hardware and software.
Provide first line of support to internal users (IRRI researchers, staff, officers), assist with hardware, software, network and communication problems by phone, email and desk-side support
Contact service provider on system issues to ensure that response and immediate solutions are carried out in the most efficient manner.
Liaise with IIO, Delhi and/or HQ as may be required - to set up conferences, resolve technical issues, explore new solutions, provide training support, etc.
Ensure all support and service requests are logged and administered using the appropriate service desk software and working to any agreed Service Level Agreement
Provide technical support with the installation of new hardware / software as required for new users or network / systems upgrades.
Ensure asset control and configuration of the IT desktop and /or modification of IT equipment is maintained under robust change control
Provide training on IT systems and processes to new users and refreshers to existing users as may be necessary.
Graduate with course in IT, information management, data management or related field with minimum 3 year relevant experience in related field.
Is able to setup and troubleshoot audio and video conference web based solutions
Is able to setup and troubleshoot LAN and WiFi Network issue, resolve problems related to network printers, scanners, IP based digital desk phone and other equipment
Working Knowledge of Office applications of windows and google platforms and Videoconferencing
Knowledge of cloud based systems
House-Rent Allowance: IRRI provides a house rent allowance of 40% of base pay per month.
Transport Allowance: A monthly transport allowance is provided to NRS. NRS L4: INR 4,000
Dearness Allowance: One Hundred and Thirteen percent (113%) of employee’s base pay.
Leave Travel Allowance (LTA): One-month base pay per annum, on availing minimum 2 days of vacation leave
Education Allowance: INR 1000/- per child per month (limited 2 children)
