Title: Junior Specialist, Step I-II ‚ÄďCell/Developmental Biology- Molecular and Cell Biology
Junior Specialist: Our laboratory focuses on understanding how cells organize themselves internally, in order to
take on a specific external form and function. We explore these fundamental issues by studying a simple cell type -
epithelia - in a highly manipulable model organism -- Drosophila. Working at the interface of cell biology,
development, and genetics, we study the molecules and mechanisms that govern epithelial form, including
apicobasal polarity, and how this form directs proper epithelial function to control cell proliferation and drive tissue
morphogenesis. We also study Drosophila models of cancer.
Responsibilities: In collaboration with the Principal Investigator and lab members, the Jr. Specialist will carry out
genetic, molecular biological and microscopy-based experiments in research studying Drosophila cancer biology
and epithelial development. Research duties will include genetic stock construction, genetic screening,
transplantation, metabolic assays, cell polarity assays, malignancy assays. Lab management duties will include
ordering, filling reagent requests, coordinating food supplies, and assisting with stock keeping.
Minimum/Basic Qualifications Required (At the time of application): Applicants must possess a Bachelor's
Degree, or equivalent degree, in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or related field.
Additional Required Qualifications (By start date): The successful candidate will have at least one year of
laboratory employment experience involving the techniques listed in the ‚ÄúResponsibilities‚ÄĚ section. At least 6
months experience of research experience with Drosophila or other model genetic organism.

This position will be at UC Berkeley and reports to Dr. David Bilder. The initial appointment will be at 100% time for 1 year with the expectation of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. The approximate start date
of this position will be August 1, 2018. The candidate should be open to a two-year commitment.
Salary: $37,548-40,044 depending on qualifications. This position provides full benefits.
