A 2 years post-doctoral position is available at the Section of Microbiology and Genetics, Dept. Experimental Medicine of the University of Perugia, Italy. Applications are invited from highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates to investigate and perform research on a project funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. The aim is to develop new lines of genetically attenuated parasites (GAPs) to investigate malaria vaccine. Vaccinations with these live attenuated sporozoites will induces immune responses that protect the host from re-infection. The candidate is expected to conduct an independent experimental project, but also to function as a team leader within the group.  High-level skills in molecular and cellular biology are required. Previous experience in genetic modification of both P. berghei and P. falciparum parasites and infection analysis in both vertebrate host and mosquito vector will be  preferred  but not absolutely needed. Candidates must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in relevant subject area – molecular parasitology, genetics, biochemistry, cell biology microbiology, etc.
