Posted by: Boston University School of Medicine

Posted date: Dec-10-2017

Location: Boston, MA

The Laboratory of Addictive Disorders is located in the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics on the Boston University Medical Campus. Our research is aimed at understanding the neurobiological substrates of alcohol and drug addiction, anxiety and stress-related disorders, obesity and eating disorders, and impulsive behavior.

Studies are carried out on environmental and genetic rodent models, using a multidisciplinary behavioral, pharmacological, biochemical, and molecular approach. Some of the techniques currently used in the laboratory are: self-administration (food, alcohol, ICSS), intracranial surgeries , place conditioning, anxiety and depression tests (elevated plus-maze, light-dark box test, defensive withdrawal, forced swim test, tail suspension test, novelty suppression of feeding), alcohol dependence induced by vapor exposure, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, GTPgammaS, DREADDs, and viral vector technology to study site-specific gene knockdown in the brain.

A Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Pharmacology or related disciplines is required. Those with a strong background in behavioral neuroscience, and who consider themselves independent, intensely motivated to succeed, and hard-working are encouraged to apply.

To apply, please send your CV and research statement to: Dr. Pietro Cottone or Dr. Valentina Sabino at bu.edu">cottone(at)bu.edu or bu.edu"> vsabino(at)bu.edu
