Research Assistant

Location: Iowa City, IA

Provide support for research by conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing results and performing operational duties associated with the laboratory of Dr. Thorsten Maretzky at the Carver College of Medicine/University of Iowa.  Support cell biological and immunological studies related to the onset and progression of inflammation-associated diseases and cancers.  Focus on tumor necrosis factor (TNF)α signaling in innate immunity and inflammatory disease as well as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) activation with an emphasis on its role in cancer development and progression. Utilize mouse models and the techniques of molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, and cell culture.  Key areas of responsibilities include conducting research activities/experiments, collecting, analyzing and summarizing data, preparing reports, contributing to manuscripts/publications, administrative and project management, facilities and equipment management, and supervision/staffing.

Experience Required:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Experience with teaching and training undergraduate researchers and students is required.

Experience safely and effectively handle rodents is required.
 

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with rodent in vivo models is highly desirable.

Experience handling mice and manipulating mice models is highly desirable.

Experience in microbiology, molecular techniques, and a background in immunology is desirable
