Assistant Specialist

 An opening is available for an Assistant Specialist in the laboratory of Prof. Jack Gallant at the University of California at Berkeley (Department of Psychology and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute). The Gallant lab performs cognitive neuroscience studies of human subjects aimed at understanding basic cognitive mechanisms such as vision, language, decision making and so on. Experimental data is primarily from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies, but other measurement modalities are also used. The lab makes heavy use of statistical and computational modeling procedures in this work.

Position/duties: Assist in computational neuroscience research to understand the structure and function of the visual system and other cognitive systems. Working under the direction of the PI, post-docs and graduate students, the candidate will aid in the preparation of experimental stimuli; will help pre-process fMRI data using our custom, in-house pre-processing pipeline; will aid in using FreeSurfer to produce high-quality cortical flat maps; and will provide administrative support to the laboratory.

Minimum/basic qualifications required at time of application: BA or BS or equivalent degree in psychology, neuroscience, computer science, or related field.

Preferred qualifications: MA or MS or equivalent degree in psychology, neuroscience, computer science, or related field; experience with fMRI image processing and signal analysis; experience with human subjects research; familiarity with Linux.

Good familiarity with human neuroanatomy and functional MRI scanning is desirable. Ability to program in Python or interest in learning Python is preferred.

This is a two -year full-time (100%) position with the possibility of extension. The salary range is: $48,204.00 to $50,244.00, depending on experience, with full benefits. How to apply: This position will be open until filled, with an anticipated start date of September 2017.
