Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Cardiac Tissue Engineering

Posted by: Aurora Health Care

Posted date: Jul-30-2017

Location: Milwaukee, WI

Aurora Research Institute (ARI) Aurora Health Care is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Cardiac Tissue Engineering for Drug Development and Disease Modeling. Our group has established induced pluripotent stem cell program and developed miniature human heart models to study abnormal heart mechanical and electrical function relevant to aging and heart failure. We are studying molecular mechanisms underlying heart dysfunction in genetic disorders in a dish and screening drugs for new therapies for treating cardiovascular diseases.

This Post-doctoral Research Fellow opening in Cardiac Tissue Engineering is immediately available in the Joshi-Mukherjee lab. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with expertise in cardiac biology, cell and molecular biology, single cell electrophysiology and optical mapping. The project involves development of novel in-situ small molecule based therapies for cardiac arrhythmias, application of tissue engineering techniques and genetic manipulation to improve cardiac tissue maturation. Overall, experiments in these in vitro model systems will span from cutting-edge tissue engineering to further validations in animal models.

Qualifications
• PhD in cell biology and development, biomedical engineering, or other relevant areas of biomedical sciences.
• Extensive knowledge of cardiac biology and electrophysiology
• Experience in human iPS culture and cardiomyocyte differentiation.
• Expertise in 3D cell culture/tissue engineering, confocal imaging and biochemical assays. This will include method development and implementation, scaling to accommodate a large number of cell lines, characterization of the lines at the genomic and protein level, and a high level of quality control and standardization.
• Candidate needs to be self-motivated, independent, good communicator, and able to work within a team of scientists with diverse backgrounds.

Postdoctoral fellows are expected to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, participate in conferences for the intellectual exchange of research ideas, and engage in existing and new collaborations within and outside ARI. Joshi-Mukherjee’s group provides a stimulating environment with excellent opportunities for scientific growth. This work is the part of an interdisciplinary project involving cardiac cell and developmental biologists, bioengineers, and clinical scientists at Aurora Research Institute. The goals are to engage the scientific community at Aurora to network with clinicians to align basic research with translational clinical outcome.
