Posted date: Jul-26-2017

Location: Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil

A postdoctoral position is available at the Laboratory of Chemical Neuroanatomy, Dept. of Anatomy – ICB – USP, linked to a thematic project under the supervision of Prof. Jackson C. Bittencourt, that deals with the appearance of immunoreactive neurons to the melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) exclusively during the lactation period in the ventromedial preoptic area. This project should use methodologies of molecular biology, implantation of osmotic minipumps and analysis of maternal behavior. It will also make use of harvesting and analyzing the breast milk from rat dams, perfusion and brain cutting of the same animals, immunohistochemistry and western blotting. For the development of this project, the postdoctoral fellow will be subsidized with a postdoctoral fellowship provided by the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo (FAPESP, Thematic Project 2016/02224-1, valid from 08/01/2017 to 07/31/2022), with the requirement of full-time dedication. The Fellowship has the annual approximately amount of US$ 25,800.00, with a duration of 24 months. Financial aid equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the scholarship will be granted for expenses directly related to research activities. The requirements and benefits are available at http://fapesp.br/bolsas/pd. The interested candidates must have completed their PhD using methodologies of interest and/or of knowledge in the area related to the intended project. Must be independent, be able to interact with the work team and good communication skills. Have independence in the English language (reading, writing and speaking). The position requires previous experience in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, knowledge of histology and neuroanatomy of the rat central nervous system, as well as physiology and maternal behavior, and most important one is how to deal with the implantation of minipumps to deliver hormones and/or peptides. It is also desirable for the Applicant to have the ability to manipulate laboratory animals (primarily rat dams). To help choose the candidate, he/she will be interviewed (in person or via Skype). Please, contact Prof. Bittencourt by email jcbitten(at)icb.usp.br. Documents required for registration (until 08/04/2017), should be sent in PDF format to Prof. Jackson C. Bittencourt by email, as following:
a. CV updated;
b. Letter of interest, explaining the reasons for your application to the position;
c. Two letters of recommendation issued by professionals in your area of expertise;
d. The three latest/most relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals.
