Associate Specialist - RIVRLab at Marine Science Institute (25% time) JPF00989
The Riparian Invasion Research Lab, affiliated with Marine Science Institute, is seeking a 25% time associate specialist in organic chemistry who can develop methods and analysis of an insect-derived aggregation pheromone for use in a research program concerning the use of an approved biological control agent, Diorhabda carinulata, targeting invasive Tamarix spp. This pheromone will be used in research studies to detect new colonization of this insect across the southwestern U.S., as well as to modulate the reproductive behavior of insects released to Tamarix-infested locations.
The successful applicant will operate in our laboratory in Noble Hall, and will coordinate with field crews responsible for field applications of the specific pheromone, so should be a team player who can coordinate well with crews as well as the project director. The position is 25% time on this specialized project, which will be completed over the 6-month period of anticipated insect activity.
25% time appointment. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with University of California policy. The position starts as soon as possible. Current funding supports the position for six months.
