The Lishko lab in the Molecular Cell Biology Department at UC Berkeley seeks a Jr. Specialist. The goals of the Lishko lab are to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the physiology of mammalian fertilization. The lab studies the function of sperm ion channels, macromolecules essential for proper ion homeostasis. By understanding the physiology of sperm cells the Lishko lab aims to develop safe contraceptives and diagnostic tests for male fertility. We are looking for a motivated Junior Specialists with and interest in tackling these questions using multidisciplinary approaches in combination of electrophysiology, endocrinology and molecular biology.

‚Ę Mouse dissection and sperm cell preparation. In vitro cell culturing
‚Ę Basic tissue culture, transfection and analysis of phenotype of cell lines.
‚Ę DNA and RNA analysis: standard techniques required for molecular biology. Including DNA amplification and purification: including bacterial retransformation, amplification, purification by standard Qiagen kit, and quantification with a spectrophotometer. RNA isolation and cDNA synthesis and quantitative PCR set up and analysis.
‚Ę Supervising compliances with all safety and animal regulations, radiation safety.
