Postdoctoral Fellow, Structural Biology

Posted by: Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC), University of Montréal

Posted date: Jul-18-2016

Location: Montréal

The Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) at the University of Montréal has an opening for a postdoctoral fellowship in the field of structural and systems biology related to cancer signaling. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in a related field (i.e. biochemistry, molecular biology) and demonstrate significant experience in the determination of protein structures using X-Ray crystallography. In-depth expertise of protein biochemistry and working knowledge of protein expression and purification is a must. Experience with NMR spectroscopy and cell culture will be considered an asset. Projects pertain to networks transmitting signals to/from RAS oncoproteins and related cancer-initiating pathways. Study of these problems will entail a multidisciplinary approach via application of cutting-edge experimental methods in structural biology, biophysics, evolutionary bioinformatics, and cell biology. The ultimate goal is a comprehensive mechanistic understanding of aberrant protein function and its resultant impact on cell biology, with the eventual possibility to employ the drug discovery capabilities of IRIC. More information can be found at: http://matt19smith.wix.com/iric

IRIC is an ultra-modern research hub and training centre located in the heart of Université de Montréal. Created in 2003 to shed light on the mechanisms of cancer and discover new, more effective therapies, research at IRIC has already built a reputation for excellence within the Canadian and international scientific communities. Nearly 500 team members are dedicated to the Institute’s approach: complementary expertise, collaboration and community, combined with creativity and innovation. The next generation of investigators trained at IRIC must not only become experts in their own field, they must also integrate multidisciplinarity and collaboration into their practice. More information can be found at: http://www.iric.ca/en/students/postdoctoral-fellowship

This postdoctoral fellow will be expected to design and conduct research projects under the supervision of Dr. Matthew Smith, as well as to supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Some administrative duties including lab management and maintenance of crystallography infrastructure will also be required.

Interested candidates should submit a full CV, a one-page statement of research interests, and electronic copies of up to three first-author publications.
