Senior Associate Scientist II - Plant Pathology

Key Responsibilities

·         Provide strategic direction to research in the field to assess genetic gains using head to head trials and use of microbes for the management of biotic and abiotic stresses in South Asia, particularly in India, Bangladesh and Nepal
·         Manage the implementation of  research/research support service activities of the projects for development and validation of management technologies that help augment expression of tolerance in farmers’ fields
·         Build and lead high level partnerships with stakeholders (internationally, nationally and locally) related to the projects
·         Prepare and finalize reports and research proposals
·         Co-ordinate and supervise analysis of research data in the field of assessment of genetic potential, head to head and microbial research and genetic potential of STRVs
·         Take the lead in preparing and presenting research findings related to the projects in various formats and forums
·         Provide technical support and deliver training sessions to staff and other stakeholders in the area of biotic and abiotic stress
·         Use of information to assess genetic gains in farmers fields
·         Explore the mechanism of role of microbes in drought tolerance of STRVs
·         Create awareness and enhance adoption of new rice varieties
·         Promote evidence- based policy advocacy related to promotion of STRVs and their proper management
·         Develop network of NARES partners to carry out the experiments and create awareness
·         Capacity building of NARES partners

Qualification and Experience

·         Master of Science Degree in plant pathology/agriculture microbiology/seed technology and 9 years of relevant work experience in microbial management of biotic and abiotic stresses; assessment of genetic gains or;

·         PhD in plant pathology/agriculture microbiology/seed technology with 5 years work experience in microbial management of biotic and abiotic stress, assessment of genetic gains etc or equivalent training/experience


·         Extensive proven technical proficiency in conducting research experiments/surveys

·         Extensive Research management experience

·         Experience leading /supervising a team

·         Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

·         Excellent organizational skills

·         Extensive experience in project or program management, including budget management

·         Excellent analytical skills

·         Excellent decision-making skills

·         Strong skills on isolation, mass multiplication and delivery of microbes  and assessment of genetic gains


·         Experience writing project proposals

·         Exposure of working in eastern India, Bangladesh and Nepal; experience of working with NARES partners in South Asia
