We are seeking a biophysical chemist to join out team in protein biochemistry group within the chemistry and pre-clinical development department. The qualified candidate is expected to take a leading technical role in developing biophysical and biochemical assays to support the characterization of protein therapeutics in pre-clinical and clinical programs. In depth expertise in protein characterization is required and includes spectroscopic techniques (light scattering, fluorescence, circular dichroism), protein purification and characterization, and assay development. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and be motivated, proactive and capable of managing multiple projects.
50% Research support for preclinical and clinical programs
-Candidate will be responsible for providing biochemical and biophysical characterization of drugs in late stage and pre-clinical or clinical programs to support comparability studies and CMC sections of INDs and BLAs. The candidate is expected to provide input on experimental designs and suggest modifications technical tasks effectively with limited guidance, involving a range of techniques and should be able to independently troubleshoot problems with methods and protocols.
50% Method and technology development
-The candidate is expected to conduct novel research projects that can lead to either peer-reviewed publications or increased value in the technical proficiencies of the group. These projects will focus on developing novel biochemical/biophysical assays or improving existing ones. Results from these projects will help in the advancement of future therapeutic programs. The candidate is expected to develop these projects fairly independently and to present the progress and future directions to peers and supervisors regularly.
Technical Skills:
Technical proficiencies include protein purifications, chromatography, electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE, Western blot, 2-D gels) and protein modification (chemical and enzymatic). CE and/or MALLS experience is a plus.
Requirement:
Position requires a Ph.D. in biochemistry or biophysical chemistry or related field plus 2-4 years postdoctoral experience with a record of scientific achievements, creativity, and excellent communication skills (oral and written). Good analytical techniques, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment. Candidate should be able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
