Summary:Applications are invited for graduate student positions in the area of Human Embryonic Stem Cells (hESCs) and induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) in Dr. Guokai Chen’s group at the University of Macau (http://fhs.umac.mo/staff/academic-staff/chen-guokai/). The lab is interested in the development of new stem cell technologies for translational applications1,2,3,4. The lab currently focuses on stem cell differentiation to specific cell types under chemically defined conditions. It also works on the nutritional regulation on stem cell metabolism. We are seeking highly motivated candidates to join us to explore exciting applications of human pluripotent stem cells.
 
Requirements: Candidates must have a Bachelor Degree in biology, medicine, bioinformatics, chemistry, or a related field. Experience in bioinformatics is a big plus and preferred.

Research Environment
The University of Macau (www.umac.mo) is the leading university in Macau, China, and it recently moved to a new 300-Acre campus on Hengqin Island. In 2012, the University established the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) that is striving to become a top research Institute in Biomedical Sciences. The FHS consists of top-level laboratories and 10 core facilities, providing an exceptional environment for basic and translational research programs. This new faculty is well-funded by direct funding support from the University and extramural funding opportunity from Macau Foundation.
 
Financial Support and Living Environment
The salary for Graduate Students will be between US$15,000 and  US$18,000 according to the University Guideline. Also, the living cost in Macau is relatively low. Successful candidates are eligible for residence in the University Graduate Student House. Macau is a beautiful and historical city just minutes away from mainland China and one-hour ferry away from Hong Kong, and has been thriving with diverse cultures. Chinese and English are widely used in daily lives.
